About GEORGE
I was born in London to Greek-Russian parents and my passion for photography started at the age of 11 when I was given a Kodak Instamatic 110 camera. At the age of 14 I bought myself a £100 twin lens format Yashicamat roll film camera, built my own darkroom in a cupboard under the stairs, and was totally absorbed by all things photography.
Following a Post-Graduate Diploma in Photojournalism at the London College of Printing I turned full-time professional photographer specializing in “Geographical” type photography, whereupon I started travelling extensively throughout Greece and the world shooting stories from Papua New Guinea to Russia’s Far East Siberia.
My other photography passion is Disability Sports and I have been lucky enough to be accredited as an official photographer at the Athens Olympics and Paralympics in 2004, the Winter Games in Torino in 2006, Summer Games in Beijing in 2008, London 2012 games, and the Sochi Winter Games in 2014.
I was a contributing photographer to Gamma Presse Agency in Paris as well as The Cover Story picture agency in Amsterdam, and more latterly to CAPA also based in Paris.
My editorial work has appeared in many magazines around the world including Royal Geographical Magazine, GEO Magazine, London Metro, Daily Mail, BBC, The Free Press, Journal Du Dimanche, Le Point, and Marianne and most recently in National Geographic online edition.
My latest endeavour is a switch to cinematography with the opportunity to work as a cameraman for a four part wildlife documentary commissioned by Off the Fence Productions for National Geographic WILD channel entitled Hidden Wonders of Europe – Greece, first aired in January 2022.
